I just wanted to comment on these letters regarding free-range chickens and eggs.

We in Maine have been lucky to live near one of the largest egg farms in the world. Eggs in Maine are relatively cheap and plentiful.

While they may not be the best-paying jobs in the state, how many people have worked for or been associated with DeCoster Egg Farms or any of the spin-off companies created when it was split up?

One reason for the jobs and low-cost eggs in this state is because of the systems in the barns for collecting eggs and housing chickens.

I am no proponent of nike shoes mistreating animals. It is wrong, and it should be put to an end. However, before rushing to rid the world of these cage systems, think about what it would do to the cost of eggs.

Compare the cost of these free-range and organic eggs to the cost of regular eggs. You can do this in any store in the state. Do you want to pay $2 a dozen or $4 a dozen? And what is the actual difference in the eggs? Very little. I would venture to say not nearly enough of a difference to offset the difference in replica gucci price.

Everyone wants to run down DeCoster Egg Farms, but if we really think about it, how much money has it saved people for eggs? How many jobs has it offered in this state? How much in taxes has it made for the state? And how much more do you want to have to pay for one of the staples of our diets, eggs?
